Ambassador Li Jiming Delivers a Recorded Video Speech at the Inaugural Groundbreaking Ceremony of Extension of Runway at Cox's Bazar Airport Project

Ambassador Li Jiming delivered a recorded video speech at the inaugural groundbreaking ceremony of Extension of Runway at Cox's Bazar Airport Project upon the invitation of the executing agency, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism. Her Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina virtually graced the occasion and addressed at the event. H.E. Md. Mahbub Ali, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, Mr. Md. Mokammel Hossain, Secretary of Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman, Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh and Representatives of the Chinese Contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and Changjiang Yichang Waterway Engineering Bureau (CYWEB) Joint Venture physically attended the event at Cox's Bazar.

Inaugural Speech by Her Hon'ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh

PM Hasina drew a prosperous blueprint for the Cox's Bazar as the future global aviation hub of the country through the infrastructure connectivity improvement projects including the runway extension project. She shared her outlook on Bangladesh Vision 2041 and emphasized the AL's mega plan for development of the whole country till 2100.

Ambassador Li Jiming recalled the longstanding cooperation partnership between China and Bangladesh in the field of infrastructure development. "Bangladesh is first country in South Asia to join the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The Cox's Bazar Runway Extension Project will for sure advance China-Bangladesh cooperation with regards to infrastructure development and becomes a powerhouse for the socio-economic development of Cox's Bazar amidst the pandemic." He further highlighted that the sound technical capacity and extensive experiences of similar nature for the Chinese Contractor would contribute to the smooth progression and bring the works up to the satisfaction and requirements of the Employer, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh.

Upon the completion of the Project, the existing runway at Cox's Bazar will be extended to 3,300 meters, which will be able to accommodate the giant aircrafts for domestic and international travels. The extended runway will lay a solid foundation for the development of Cox's Bazar airport as a global aviation hub and boost the local tourism industry and facilitate post-pandemic economic recovery.
