Online Handover Certificate Signing Ceremony was held for the China-aid Project of Emergency Food Aid to Bangladesh

On January 20th, 2021, an Online Handover Certificate Signing Ceremony was held for the China-aid Project of Emergency Food Aid to Bangladesh. Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Mr. Li Jiming, Secretary Mr. Md. Mohsin from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief of Bangladesh attended the online ceremony and signed the Handover Certificate on behalf of the Governments of China and Bangladesh respectively. State Minister Dr. Md. Enamur Rahman of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief attended and spoke at the ceremony. Mr. Liu Zhenhua, the Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh, together with representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as representatives from the Economic Relations Division of the Ministry of Finance of Bangladesh, also attended the online ceremony.

Ambassador Li Jiming retrospected the process of the implementation of this Project. Since the Letter of Exchange of this Project was signed during Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to China in July of 2019, up to December of 2020, all the 2554 tons of rice under the Project have been transported to the designated Food Godown in Cox's Bazar. The Successful completion of this Project in such a timely manner during the pandemic highlights the friendship and joint efforts of China and Bangladesh.

Ambassador Li Jiming pointed out that China and Bangladesh have been cooperating quite closely in the areas of disaster management, disaster prevention, and mitigation in recent years. The Chinese Government provided Emergency Humanitarian Material Assistance to Rohingyas in 2017. The newly completed Emergency Food Aid Project was also provided to positively assist the Government of Bangladesh to cope with the Rohingyas issue. A China-aided Flood Planning Project in Bangladesh was completed in 2019, and disaster equipment was provided to the Bangladesh Fire Service. In 2020, donations of medical supplies from both the Chinese Government and various civil channels arrived in Bangladesh in the most timely manner and the Chinese Medical Experts Team came to Bangladesh and shared experiences and offered the most needed assistance. All these were the vivid epitome of the cooperation and joint effort of China and Bangladesh in coping with disasters and standing together to face challenges.

Both State Minister Dr. Md. Enamur Rahman and Secretary Mr. Md. Mohsin spoke highly of the Chinese assistance to Bangladesh in various areas. They expressed their sincere gratitude for China and were grateful for the Emergency Food Aid and other material assistance sent from China to Bangladesh. They hoped to further enhance cooperation in disaster management, disaster mitigation, and relief between the countries.
